Calling all Grade 1 Parents & Students! Please attend Reading & ‘Rithmetic 2010, an interactive learning event just for first graders and their parents!

When: Thursday, Sept 16, 2010
Where: MES Cafeteria
Time: 5:30-6:00 registration & optional bento
            6:00 – 7:30pm Activities

In response to parents’ requests, MES Grade 1 teachers & Literacy Coaches have created this workshop for parents who want to help their child meet grade level Language Arts and Math benchmarks. Join us to learn Reading Response and Problem Solver methods to use at home!

To make it easier to attend, we are offering pre-ordering bentos (rice, mochiko chicken, hot dog, fishcake, pickle, andagi) for the reasonable price of $4 each.

What:  Annual Lion’s Island Style Breakfast/Plant Sale
When:  Saturday, September 25, 2010
Where:  Moanalua Middle School
Time:  6:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
Cost:  $6.00
Menu:  scrambled eggs, sausage, rice, juice or coffee
Entertainment:  provided by the middle school

The Moanalua Lion’s ask for your support.  This annual breakfast will help support the Lion’s annual Ho’opono Christmas lunch for the blind in December and various other service projects.  The proceeds will also help support various other community groups including…the boy scouts, girl scouts, cub scouts and the MoHS Leo club.  This is the major fundraiser for the Moanalua Lion’s club.  They will also collect used eye glasses, so please bring your used eye glasses to the breakfast. 

If you live in the Moanalua Gardens, Valley or Salt Lake, the Lions will be going door to door selling tickets or if they missed you and you wish to purchase tickets, please contact Kathy at 225-8046 or via email higak011@hawaii.rr.com.

Astronaut Lacy Veach

Astronaut Lacy Veach

Registration is now open for the 9th annual celebration and special day honoring the life and legacy of Charles Lacy Veach, who grew up in Honolulu with an interest in science, had a distinguished career in the United States Air Force, and went on to fly two Space Shuttle missions. The program is a day full of fun, science related learning activities and is open to children in grades 4 -12 and teachers of any grade level or subject.

Date: Saturday, October 16, 2010
Time: 8:00am – 3:00pm
Place: Punahou School
Note: students in grades 4-8 must be accompanied by a parent/other adult throughout the day.

Registration is free. Please note that registration is limited to 600 participants and sign ups fill up extremely quickly. Reservations will be made on a first-come, first-served basis. Moanalua Elementary will be providing all students with the opportunity to participate in the State of Hawaii, Department of Health and Department of Education Influenza Vaccine Program.  If you choose to register your child, he/she will be vaccinated with a “Flu Shot” or flu “Nasal Spray” on Monday, October 25, 2010.

The authorization forms were sent home with your child last week. If you choose to have your child participate, please complete and submit the appropriate paperwork by Thursday, September 9, 2010.

If you have any questions and/or complaints about the Flu Vaccine Program, please call 211.
