ART & CULTURE

Art education is a critical yet overlooked aspect of a student’s education. Exposure to the arts help students problem solve and increases their ability to learn. If you value and enjoy the arts, then help us plan programs to introduce our students to the wonderful world of ART. Past projects have included our participation in the National PTA “Reflections” Program competition, school mural painting with an artist, “Art to Go” collaboration with the Honolulu Academy of Arts, drama education, and our support of the music and strings program.

BOOK CLUB

Books, books and more books!! Enjoy books or just meeting and working with people? Join the Book Club committee. it’s lots of fun! So get all your friends together and work with our librarian to bring books to our students.

CAMPUS BEAUTIFICATION

This committee has been making the MES campus nicer, safer, and friendlier. Past projects include planting grass, installing a new sprinkler system, painting the playground equipment, bathrooms, parking stalls, curbs, and hop scotches. Got some ideas? Join us and have a creative day of helping to beautify the campus.

BUDGET & FINANCE - FUNDRAISING

This is one of our most important committees. Without it, the PTA would not be able to provide the resources and programs to enrich our student’s education. The PTO has two fundraising events to support all our programs. The first key fundraiser takes place in August to provide startup funds for programs in the beginning of the year. The second is the Fun Fair, our major annual fundraiser held in November that has the community buzzing with anticipation. If you are excited by the energy and thrill of fundraising please join our team and help raise needed funds to support valuable programs for the students.

FUN FAIR

This committee has a huge responsibility but it’s also the most FUN. This annual fundraising event has been a tradition at MES that gets the whole community involved. It brings together various organizations from community groups, local businesses, senior citizens, parents, teachers, staff and students (MoHS, MMS, and our own MES students) to put on a fun family fair to raise funds to support PTO sponsored programs.

HEALTH & FITNESS

Are health and fitness issues important to you? This committee sets up interesting seminars, and programs for parents and students on subjects like drug awareness, nutrition, mental health, physical fitness, CPR, and Keiki IDs. Come out for a valuable learning experience and help us promote healthy living.

HOSPITALITY

Do you enjoy planning parties and gatherings? In this committee, you’ll help to provide refreshments at board meetings and PTO functions. Come and have fun and make it a party.

LEGISLATIVE

The PTO is the largest youth advocate group. Be our liaison with our legislators to keep them informed of our activities and concerns.

MANPOWER

Sign up and assist with fulfilling manpower requirements for PTO events.

MEMBERSHIP

In order to provide all the various projects that MES PTO sponsors, we need everyone’s participation in becoming a member. Please join us and become part of the MES PTO family! (August-January). Help us register families and keep track of our membership.

MILITARY LIAISON

Join this dedicated group of volunteers in helping to foster a rewarding learning experience for our students of active duty military service members. They offer support and resources to help students and families become integrated to their new school community. To our military families, this committee offers you a chance to participate and share your experience to help make MES a place to call home.

PORTFOLIO

The PTO designs and produces the MES portfolio that our children receive on the first day of school filled with important information. During the Summer, you will be coordinating with volunteers and the school to make it all come together prior to the start of school with the annual portfolio-stuffing day. (March -July)

PROGRAMS

This committee looks for interesting programs and activities that the MES PTO can undertake. If you have ideas of how the PTO could better serve the students and teacher of MES this is the committee for you.

PUBLICITY

We need people who can help keep our bulletin board updated, make posters to help us publicize upcoming events. Share your creative and crafty talents as we let the community know what’s happening around MES.

R.A.P.

Reading As Partners. Here at MES, reading is vital and our students have the opportunity to participate in reading various genres throughout the year. This committee selects and displays student’s RAP coupons and provides fun reading incentives. (September-May)

SCHOOL T-SHIRT

We need people who are energetic and who can help count, fold and label the School T-Shirt orders for distribution. Much of the work, however, starts before the shirts arrive. Get involved with the design process, help select a vendor to print all the shirts (800+), and collect and distribute the T-shirt orders as soon as school starts so that the shirts arrive by the first scheduled field trip. Everybody waits in anticipation for the new t-shirt design.

TEACHER/STAFF APPRECIATION DAY

We have the best teachers and staff here at MES!!! Help show your appreciation by coordinating a fun afternoon filled with ono food and fun activities. This is a time to get creative and to give our teachers and staff a special day to remember. (March-May)
