PTA BOARD MEETING

July 11, 2007

CALL TO ORDER: First Vice-President Cindy Fukunaga called the meeting to order at 6:15 PM in the MES library.

VOTING MEMBERS PRESENT: Cindy Fukunaga, Margaret Bailon-Labednick, Wendell Oumaye, Reiko Kobayashi, Ernest Ramiscal, Manny Salvador, Wanda Kohashi

NON-VOTING MEMBERS PRESENT: Denise Arai, Carol Mann-Molay, Wendy Hadano, Michelle Gandee, Susie Okumura, Rae Tom, Lynette Kam, Gail Ramiscal

MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING: Minutes were distributed for the June 8, 2007 Board Meeting. The minutes were approved as submitted.

TREASURER’S REPORT: E. Ramiscal submitted the MES Balance Sheet, MES PTA Profit and Loss Report, MES PTA General Ledger and Budget Report as of 5/31/07 and 6/31/07. The reports were accepted as submitted and filed for audit.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Portfolio Stuffing – C. Fukunaga reported that portfolio stuffing will be on July 26th at 4:00 in the Library with pizza dinner will be served. 900 copies of handouts are needed by July 25th to be part of portfolio.

Newsletter- Submit articles to Manny via email Salvadorm007@hawaii.rr.com preferably as a Word document by July 18th for PTA newsletter in portfolio.

Hospitality – W. Kohashi reported teachers will be provided breakfast on Thursday, July 26 in the library and welcomes any help.

EBooks-R. Tom reported representatives would hold presentation and luncheon for teachers and staff on July 26. Tentatively scheduling distribution of 1300 books for Wednesday, August 29.

T-Shirt- M. Salvador presented several T-shirt designs and a winning design was chosen. Flyers for T-shirt sales will be part of the portfolio stuffing.

Membership-Currently 467 MES PTA members and Membership flyers are ready for portfolios.

Reflections-M. Bailon-Lebednick reported the 2007-2008 Reflections theme is “I Can Make a Difference by.” A flyer from the PTA.Org website will be used for portfolio stuffing.

RAP- W Hadano reported RAP will run for 7 months from September to April and the committee is working on revising coupon dates. Currently ordering prizes and working with Ms. Kam on Read Across America campaign which will launch on March 2nd.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:

Open House: Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at 6 PM. First 20 minutes are scheduled for Administration and PTA. W. Kohashi will prepare Childcare Flyer for Open House.

Open Committees: Vacancies will be identified in PTA Committees flyer to go out with portfolios on the first day of school.

ADMINISTRATION REPORT:

Date to Remember: July 31st is Kindergarten Orientation and 1st day for students. Suggestion was made to the PTA to hold presentations with new Kindergarten parents to increase membership and involvement.

Faculty – Mrs. Arai reported MES would open with full teaching staff and introduced new Vice Principal, Carol Mann-Molay.

Renovations – Facility improvements are continuing for roof and K buildings.

Enrollment – Reported at 680 students with the anticipation for late enrollments.

School Community Council – Next SCC meeting to be held the 2nd Wednesday of August from 4:00-5:30 PM.

Mrs. Arai asked if anyone with web design knowledge could help update school website.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

The next General Membership Meeting will held on August 29, 2007 at 6:00 PM in conjunction with Open House.

The next Board Meeting will be held on September 12 at 6:00 PM
