PTA BOARD MEETING
January 16, 2008
CALL TO ORDER: President L. Shimoda called the meeting to order at 6:10 PM in the MES library.
VOTING MEMBERS PRESENT: Cindy Fukunaga, Wanda Kohashi, Margaret Bailon-Labednick, Michelle Gandee, Reiko Kobayashi
NON-VOTING MEMBERS PRESENT: Carol Mann-Molay, Susie Okumura, Kirsten Kajiwara, Lisa Lee, Tamara Ochoa, Terri Kimura, Rae Tom, Kristin Claudi
MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING: Minutes were distributed for the December 12, 2007 Board Meeting. Minutes were approved as submitted.
TREASURER’S REPORT: No Treasurer’s Report was submitted for review.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Hospitality: W. Kohashi reported Teacher Appreciation Day is tentatively scheduled for May 7th.
EBooks: Committee is open to suggestions for other fund raising ideas.
Reflections: M. Bailon-Labednick reported 185 participants and 204 entries. 52 entries selected to represent MES in District level. Possibly display student entries on MES website.
RAP: L. Lee reported participation in program is good and new posting is Feb.13.
Military Liaison: T. Ochoa reported that the committee is currently working on a mission statement. The committee welcomes any ideas and/or objectives. Ideas for a Buddy System or Aloha Committee were brought up. Pictures honoring service members and families are currently displayed in MES Café Bulletin Board.
UPCOMING EVENTS:
Intro to Engineering: Wed. Feb. 13 at 6:30pm
MES Engineering Night: Feb .21 at 5:30pm
MES Spring Picnic: Mar 8th, 9am-noon.
Starlight Concert: Tentatively scheduled for May 14.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
Kindergarten Benches: Awaiting quote on portable benches.
AC Repair/Maintenance on Portables: Currently working on quote and maintenance contract.
SCC purchase request for Lumens: Lumens demonstration on Feb. 13th.
NEW BUSINESS:
Alliance for Drama Education: Clayton Tom discussed the mission and services of ADE and further information can be found at www.rehearseforlife.com
ADMINISTRATION REPORT:
Facility Update: New air conditioner for Library and gutters for A Building walkway.
PCNC: Jan 30th: Read together Parent Workshop and Feb 13th: PCNC Engineering Workshop. HSA Test Success (3rd grade parent workshop) targeted for February.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
The next Board Meeting will be on February 13th at 5:30pm in MES Library.
