PTA BOARD MEETING

February 13, 2008

CALL TO ORDER: President L. Shimoda called the meeting to order at 5:35 PM in the MES library.

VOTING MEMBERS PRESENT: Cindy Fukunaga, Wanda Kohashi, Ernest Ramiscal, Michelle Gandee, Reiko Kobayashi

NON-VOTING MEMBERS PRESENT: Carol Mann-Molay, Susie Okumura, Kirsten Kajiwara, Wendy Hadano, Marissa Ayag-Garcia, Deborah Takafuji, Alfina Wilson, Stephen Figart, Lyanne Figart, Daryl Fukunaga, Joanne Rosen, Clayton Tom

MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING: Minutes were distributed for the January 16, 2008 Board Meeting. Minutes were approved as submitted.

TREASURER’S REPORT: E. Ramiscal submitted the MES Balance Sheet, MES PTA Profit and Loss Report, MES PTA General Ledger and Budget Report as of 12/31/07 & 01/31/08. The reports were accepted as submitted and filed for audit.

May Day – Requesting for additional $700 to help with costs incurred by grade level island representatives. Request for additional money will be presented at next general meeting.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Reflections: M. Gandee reported that classes with highest participation will receive ice cream prize.

RAP: W. Hadano reported students will be receiving semester prizes and RAP coupons posted on MES website.

Military Liaison: M. Ayag-Garcia reported Welcome brochure is pending principal’s approval.

Website: S. Figart reported 190 visits to the website of which 58% were new visitors. There will be a push to get more people to visit the website. Currently Rap Coupons and Reflections works are posted. Military Liaison information also posted.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Intro to Engineering: Wed., Feb. 13 at 6:30pm

MES Engineering Night: Wed., Feb.21 at 5:30pm (Bridge contest)

MES Spring Picnic: Sat., Mar 8, 9am-noon. Monetary prize will be given to grade level with most participation at picnic. Currently looking for volunteers.

General Membership Meeting: Wed., March 12 in Café along with Reflections Awards.

Starlight Concert: In May along with General Membership meeting and Board Elections for upcoming year.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:

Nomination Committee: Nomination Newsletters were sent out and information will also be posted on website.

SCC purchase request for Lumens: Lumens demonstration will be presented at next month’s March General Membership Meeting.

NEW BUSINESS:

Textbook Fundraiser: Remainder of textbook fundraiser money of $6715.25 will need to be spent this year on textbooks and/or other publications.

Alliance for Drama Education: Clayton Tom thanked the PTA for continued support of ADE.

ADMINISTRATION REPORT:

None submitted.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

The next General Membership meeting is March 12, 2008.
