PTA BOARD MEETING

April 9, 2008

CALL TO ORDER:
President L. Shimoda called the meeting to order at 6:05 PM in the MES library.

VOTING MEMBERS PRESENT:
Cindy Fukunaga, Margaret Bailon-Labednick, Wendell Oumaye, Manny Salvador, Wanda Kohashi, Ernest Ramiscal, Michelle Gandee, Reiko Kobayashi

NON-VOTING MEMBERS PRESENT:
Denise Arai, Susie Okumura, Kirsten Kajiwara, Wendy Hadano, Marissa Ayag-Garcia

MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING:
Minutes were distributed for the Feb 13, 2008 Board Meeting. Minutes were approved as submitted.

TREASURER’S REPORT:
E. Ramiscal submitted the MES Balance Sheet, MES PTA Profit and Loss Report, MES PTA General Ledger and Budget Report as of 3/31/08. MES PTA Budget Proposal for 2008-2009 and MES PTA Budget requests for SY 2008-2009 were also distributed. The reports were accepted as submitted and filed for audit.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Reflections:
M. Bailon-Labednick reported that entries were returned back to the students.

T-Shirt / Newsletter:
M. Salvador reported that he is working with the Portfolio and Newsletter will soon be out.

E-Books: Lori
reported the EBook committee is meeting with EBook Representatives and also considering Sally Foster.

Fun Fair / Hospitality:
Lori reported that these committees are looking for chairs.

Military Liaison:
M. Ayag-Garcia reported April is Month of Military Child and each military child will receive a dog tag as a mahalo. A poster contest is also underway and help is needed for judging on Wed, April 23.

PAST EVENTS:

Engineering Week: Lori reported the event received positive feedback and will continue to be an annual PTA event with a perpetual trophy.

Spring Picnic: Lori reported this will be an annual event with more publicity. The 4th grade class received the monetary prize for most participation. Lori suggested prizes will be given out to all grade levels for next
year.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Teacher Appreciation: Wed.,
May 7th from 1:30-3:00pm. School Staff will be provided with a potluck, massages and games. Announcement for volunteers and food donations will be sent out.

Starlight Concert: Wed., May 14th along with General Membership meeting and Board Elections for upcoming year.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:

Nomination Committee:
Lori reported that she found a new treasurer.

AC Repair: Lori reported that she has the maintenance contract but suggested that someone be in charge to coordinate with administration to ensure continual upkeep.

SCC purchase request for Lumens:
Lori suggested to create a committee to research and fund raise for Lumens purchase and to report its findings to teachers, parents and administration.

Textbook Funds: Lori reported that administration is working with teachers to spend the remaining
balance of $6715.25 for durable textbooks by end of this school year.

NEW BUSINESS:

2008-2009 Budget:
Present budget proposals at next general membership for approval.

ADMINISTRATION REPORT:

Ms. Arai reported a school wide alarm system was installed and Summer School registration is this Sat., April 12.

PCNC: Susie reported that order forms for yearbook and summer workbooks were sent out and deadline date is firm.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

The next General Membership meeting is May 14, 2008.

ADJOURNMENT:

President L. Shimoda adjourned the meeting at 7:30PM.
