GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
July 28, 2008
CALL TO ORDER: President Lori Shimoda called the meeting to order at 6:05 PM in the MES cafeteria.
VOTING MEMBERS PRESENT: A quorum of 30 -members was present.
MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING: The minutes from the May 14, 2008 meeting was distributed and approved as submitted.
INTRODUCTION OF 2008-2010 BOARD MEMBERS:

Vice President: Mary Ann Reed

PRESIDENTS’ REPORT: President L. Shimoda reported that last year the PTA contributed $689,000. She also promoted the MES PTA website: www.moanaluapta.org and reported that the PTA is working towards becoming more effective at communicating with MES families. Everyone was urged to check the website for upcoming events and to sign up on-line. President Shimoda also invited everyone to participate in PTA activities and remarked that doing so is a great opportunity to meet people and make new friends. She also reported that last year the PTA contributed $689,000.
S.Figart and L. Yano-Figart put on a slide show which showed many of the PTA’s activities and accomplishments over the past year.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Copies of the Actual vs. Budget 6/30/08 and the MES Elementary School PTA Budget Proposal for 2008-2009 were distributed.
Outgoing treasurer E. Ramiscal reported that last years fundraising efforts grossed $101,000. Fundraising projects consisted of E-books, t-shirts, donations, and the Fun Fair. He further noted that the amount of funds raised by the Fun Fair increases five percent each year due to the support of parents. Regarding overages, E. Ramsical reported that $1,500 was allotted for A/C repair but the PTA spent $6,000 since the A/Cs had to be changed and cleaned out. The Big Island trip also went over budget by $1,200 but the Fun Fair provided the additional funds. The members had no questions. The Budget Report was approved.
Incoming treasurer R. Taone reported that according to this year’s budget the PTA will spend $145,000. He further reported that upcoming fundraising projects include E-books and Sally Foster gift wrapping sales. R. Taone thanked everyone for helping out and asked for volunteers for the Fun Fair. He reminded everyone that the PTA raises money to support the children of MES so everyone’s help is needed. Fund raising helps to pay for events such as the 4th grade Big Island trip and the 6th grade promotion ceremony.
ADJOURNMENT: President Lori Shimoda adjourned the meeting at 6:22 p.m.
