ADMINISTRATION REPORT: Principal Arai reported that it was a nice start of the year. She also reminded everyone to turn in their flu shot forms if their child will be taking the flu shot at MES. Also, she asked that everyone support the 4th grade Sally Foster fundraiser. The library fundraiser will take place on October 24-25 at Barnes & Noble. A percentage of the proceeds from book purchases will be given back to the school. Parent teacher conferences will take place from October 20-27 thus parents will be receiving a notice from their child’s teacher. The office is getting new modular furniture so the office may experience delays on October 2nd. Expect a new SASA this month. This month is cafeteria lunch count month thus please encourage parents to eat with their children. The MES cafeteria staff received a Central District and DOE team of the year award. They are vying for the team of the year title for the State of Hawaii. They are competing against other departments. On September 25th please come to learn about what we are doing at MES. There was a discussion on possibly selling E-books at the Fun Fair. According to Kyle Oyasato we will need to sell 153 books. The agreement was that if MES sold 1,000 books we would earn $1.00/book instead of .50 cents per book plus 15% of the sales price. This is equivalent to $15.50 per book. However, it was decided to close book sales. We will talk to the script people to see if they are willing to sell the books as well. There were only five outstanding books not returned by students.
ADJOURNMENT: President Lori Shimoda adjourned the meeting at 7:00 p.m.
NEXT MEETING: The next PTO Board Meeting/General Membership meeting will take place on October 14, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. in the Music Room.
