Does it matter who represents Moanalua Elementary in the legislature?
Yes it does!
Over the year, MES has had the dedicated support of Representative Lynn Finnegan and Senator Norman Sakamoto. Both have been involved with school, PTA/PTO, and parent concerns. Their role on the education committees have also been a benefit to us. This year their seats are vacant as they both pursue the office of Lt. Governor.
Lynn and Norman have been responsive and effective in resolving parent concerns over school issues. They came to our assistance when our Gifted and Talented program was slated to be cut from our district budget. When our orchestra program was being cut they came to help advocate its continued funding. They have also been instrumental in facilitating parent discussions with the DOE. Lynn and Norman have served MES well.
Our school needs competent representation in our legislature. Please research the candidates of the 32nd House District and the 15th Senatorial District and don’t forget to vote.
32nd State House:
Democratic:
Lei Sharsh
Randy Swindell
Danny Villaruz
Republican:
Aaron Johanson
15th State Senate:
Democratic:
Glenn Wakai
Republican:
Ben Pascua

Message from PTO President Sandra Hoggan: “E komo mai . . . Welcome to our first PTO General Membership Meeting of the school year!” Please join us as we hold this in conjunction with MES Open House on Thursday, August 12th. How exciting, not only are you meeting your child(ren)’s teacher(s) and MES staff, but also our incredible PTO volunteers, of which you are one. It’s an honor and a privilege to serve and I’m sure you’ll feel that way too when you see how rewarding it is to share your thoughts, ideas, and time in enabling our school PTO. Prior to commencing in the cafeteria, come browse the courtyard and visit the various PTO tables. We’ll have membership, t-shirt, school store, orchestra, and volunteer recruit tables set up. Enjoy the sounds of a string ensemble, thanks to Mr. Jeff Hamano and crew. Please take the time to view the appreciation letters from last school year’s students. We’re offering pizza by the slice and water for purchase to tie folks over. See you on Thursday!”

With Moanalua Elementary School (MES) starting school again on Monday, August 2, 2010, Kumon Moanalua has had to make a classroom change. Kumon Moanalua will now be located in classroom B1 (moved from classroom A1).
Since B1 is actively utilized as a 5th grade classroom, Kumon starting time will need to be adjusted to 2:30pm. (Class may start earlier if access to the room is available prior to 2:30pm.) Center hours will be Mondays and Thursdays, 2:30pm – 5:30pm.
Please note the following for MES students:
MES Students not attending A+:
After school, students can wait outside of classroom B1 until class begins. Kumon staff is planning to process paperwork/homework/questions while they wait for the room to be available. This will allow students to start their classwork immediately after entering the center.
MES Students attending A+:
Students will attend center at scheduled times starting from 3:00pm. Kumon staff will be picking up students from A+ each half-hour (3:00, 3:30, 4:00, and 4:30pm) as necessary. Please notify Mr. Joe Erban of any special time requirements you may have.
Students attending MES A+ should complete a new permission/release form and have your child bring the form with them to school on Monday. You can print a form here - A+ Permission Form
